How to extend the service life of CNC cutting tools

CNC Tool

To extend the service life of CNC cutting tools, the core lies in matching cutting parameters, properly maintaining the tools, and optimizing the machining environment. The following points can be referred to for details:

1. Reasonably set cutting parameters: avoid ultra-high-speed cutting and excessive feed rate. When processing difficult-to-cut materials, appropriately reduce the cutting speed and cutting depth to reduce wear on the tool edge.

2. Optimize tool selection and coating: Select corresponding tools according to the workpiece material. For example, use diamond-coated tools for processing non-ferrous metals, and ceramic tools for processing cast iron; give priority to tools with wear-resistant coatings such as TiAlN and CrN.

3. Ensure proper tool clamping and maintenance: Guarantee the clamping accuracy between the tool shank and the spindle to reduce runout; Clean the chips and built-up edges on the tool's cutting edge before and after machining to avoid edge chipping; For indexable tools, replace worn inserts in a timely manner and do not use them reluctantly.

4. Improve the cutting environment: Select appropriate cutting fluid to ensure sufficient and uniform cooling and lubrication, and reduce cutting temperature; for dry cutting scenarios, special wear-resistant tool materials should be used.
