Standard Procedures for Balancing Circular Cutting Blades
1. Appearance and Damage Inspection
- Clean oil stains, iron filings, and adhesive residues from the blade surface.
- Inspect the cutting edge: check for chipping, notches, rolling, or cracks.
- Inspect the base body: check for deformation, bending, rust, or local uneven thickness.
- Inspect the inner hole: check for wear, ovality, or burrs.
- Blades with obvious damage or deformation shall not be balanced directly; they shall be reground or replaced first.
2. Cleaning and Deburring
- Clean the end faces, inner holes and side surfaces with cleaning agent or alcohol.
- Remove burrs from inner holes and end faces to ensure the clamping datum is clean and flat.
- Ensure that the blade is mounted on the balance mandrel without looseness or deflection.
3. Install on the balancing equipment
- Mount the blade onto the high-precision balancing mandrel* and tighten the lock nut.
- Place it on a **static balancing stand** or **dynamic balancing machine**.
- Ensure the support is level, free from vibration and oil contamination.
4. Coarse Static Balance Adjustment (Simple Balancing)
- Allow the blade to rotate freely; the lowest point when it stops is the heavy side.
- Mark the opposite side as the position for material removal/weight addition.
- Repeat the rotation until the blade can remain stationary at any angle.
5. Precision Measurement of Dynamic Balance (High Precision Requirements)
- Start the dynamic balancing machine and rotate the blade at low speed.
- Equipment display:
- Unbalance amount (g•mm)
- Angular position of unbalance
- Record the data and determine the position and amount of material removal.
6. Balancing Correction (Most Commonly Used Method)
- Remove weight in small amounts and multiple times at the heavy position:
- Small blades: Micro-grinding with an oilstone, grinding wheel or file.
- Metal blades: Material removal by drilling small holes, milling or grinding.
Principles:
- The balancing position should be as **close to the outer diameter** as possible for higher efficiency.
- Remove weight in small increments each time to avoid over-correction.
7. Re-measurement and Fine Adjustment
- Conduct another on-machine measurement after deduplication.
- If imbalance still exists, repeat fine adjustment until the allowable tolerance is achieved.
- General tool requirement: **≤1–5 g•mm** (depending on diameter and rotational speed).
