How To Determine If The Harvester Blades Need To Be Replaced?

Controlling the replacement timing of harvester blades directly affects the efficiency of harvesting operations, the wear and tear of agricultural machinery and equipment, and is even more crucial to the progress of the busy farming schedule. As a purchaser, mastering simple and easy-to-judge replacement standards can accurately control the rhythm of parts procurement. This not only avoids failures caused by excessive use of blades but also prevents unnecessary waste of parts. The following core judgment points can be quickly put into practice in the field or agricultural machinery room:

Ⅰ. If there are these damages on the appearance, replace it directly.

If a blade has cracks on the blade body/edge, large-area chipping or gaps, deformation of the blade body/mounting position, deep rust and slagging, it does not need to be repaired and should be replaced directly. Continuing to use such blades may easily cause them to break and fly off, which will not only damage agricultural machinery components such as transmissions and bearings, but also pose potential safety hazards during operation and delay the progress of the busy farming season.

Ⅱ.If the cutting performance decreases and grinding is ineffective, replace it.

There are no obvious appearance issues with the blades. However, if problems such as tearing and cutting crops, uneven stubble, frequent grass entanglement and machine blockage occur during harvesting, or if there is a sudden increase in agricultural machinery fuel consumption, abnormal vibration and noise of the machine body, or a significant drop in operating efficiency, first perform standard grinding on the blades. If the problem persists after grinding, replace the blades immediately. This is a sign of internal metal fatigue and performance failure of the blades; continuing to use them reluctantly will only keep reducing the operating efficiency.

Ⅲ.Third, if the wear exceeds the standard, replace it in a timely manner.

Compared with new blades of the same model, if the cutting edge of the blade is worn flat into an arc, the thickness of the effective cutting area is reduced by more than 1/3, or the fit clearance between the mounting hole and the cutter shaft exceeds 2mm, it is recommended to replace it in time even if it can work temporarily. Overly worn blades will significantly increase the load on agricultural machinery,加剧设备损耗 with long-term use, and make sudden failures more likely to occur later.

IV. Important Reminders for Replacement When Purchasing

1. The harvester blades work in groups. If a single blade or a few blades are severely worn, it is recommended to replace the entire group. This avoids uneven force caused by mixing old and new blades, which would intensify the vibration of the agricultural machinery and increase blade wear.
2. The normal service life of ordinary blades is 1-2 busy farming seasons. Even if the blades that have been used beyond their service life show no abnormalities in appearance or performance, it is still recommended to replace them entirely before the busy farming season to prevent sudden failures during the busy period.
3. If the number of blade grindings exceeds 5 times in a single season, and the performance drops rapidly after subsequent grindings, it indicates that the metal has become fatigued, and the blades should be replaced directly. When replacing, priority should be given to high-quality blades that are compatible with the original agricultural machinery manufacturer to ensure a proper fit during installation and smooth cutting, thus guaranteeing efficient harvesting operations from the component end.
