There is no unified standard for the service life of the cutter of a laminating machine, which is mainly affected by five core factors, as follows:
1. The quality of the cutting tool itself
This is the basis for determining service life. Cutting tools made of cemented carbide and tungsten steel have much better wear resistance than those made of high-speed steel and carbon steel; whether the grinding accuracy of the cutting edge and the heat treatment process meet the standards directly affects their wear resistance and anti-fracture ability. Cutting tools with poor craftsmanship are prone to edge curling and chipping, resulting in a significant reduction in service life.
2. Cutting material characteristics
When cutting high-hardness, particle-containing coated materials, or hot-melt adhesive coated materials with strong adhesiveness, the wear rate of the blade edge will significantly accelerate, and the adhesive may also cause heat-induced dulling. Additionally, if the material is too thick or the coating layer is too thick, it will also increase the load on the cutting tool and accelerate its wear and tear.
3. Usage Operation Specifications
Excessively high cutting pressure can easily cause the blade edge to chip and the knife body to deform, while too low pressure requires repeated cutting, which exacerbates wear and tear. Excessively high cutting speed generates frictional heat and may also lead to one-sided wear due to equipment vibration. In addition, skewed feeding and failure to adjust the knife in a timely manner when changing specifications will cause uneven force on the cutter, shortening its service life.
4. Daily maintenance
Residual glue on the blade edge and dust that are not cleaned in time will accelerate passivation and corrosion; failure to accurately grind after passivation will damage the tool structure; lack of lubrication in the bearings and guide rails of circular knives will cause vibration and wear; a humid environment when idle will make the cutting knife prone to rust, affecting its service life.
5. Stability of equipment accuracy
Poor precision of the guide rails of the laminating machine and unstable fixation of the tool holder will cause the cutting knife to shift and vibrate during cutting, resulting in uneven wear; unstable operation of the equipment's transmission system will also indirectly affect the consistency of the cutting knife's stress, shortening its service life.
